About the Job

The communications/web specialist develops and manages all internal and external communication and marketing for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery across email, print, and digital platforms. The work is done across multiple health systems to promote the brand and mission of the department for the University.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation
    • Pitch, develop, write, and promote stories for and in collaboration with the Medical School's communications team.
    • Develop, write, and edit stories important to stakeholders for the biannual publication, Joint Venture, and organize its publication.
    • Develop, write, and edit stories that promote key aspects of the department's missions.
    • Provide graphic design and copy-editing expertise in all aspects of communication and promotional items.
  • Communications/Marketing
    • Manage internal and external marketing and communication across email, print, and digital platforms.
    • Partner with all health system teams to develop and evaluate marketing efforts, create and update collateral, and provide project management and marketing support.
    • Identify and organize conference and event presence to support marketing initiatives.
    • Utilize Salesforce Marketing Cloud to craft and disseminate all internal and external communication, including newsletters, updates, and messaging from leadership.
    • Ensure branding and messaging adhere to applicable brand and style guides.
    • Maintain and develop the department's website using Drupal.
    • Create and organize video content to support key department goals.
    • Develop content for social media platforms and monitor engagement.
    • Create and maintain marketing collateral, including brochures, flyers, and booklets, using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Content Management
    • Maintain departmental listservs.
    • Provide communications/marketing updates to department leadership.
    • Manage photographs, plaques, and awards as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience or a combination of education and experience to equal at least six years.
  • Experience as a marketing communications specialist or similar role.
  • Experience with web content management systems, like Drupal.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid office model.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in health care or an academic environment.
  • Previous experience in Orthopedic Surgery specialty of health care.
  • Previous experience with media relations.
  • Previous experience working with multiple organizations and groups.
  • Familiar with AP and Chicago style guides.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $28.75- $34.13 an hour ($59,800-$71,000); depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
