Job Description

Dewberry has an immediate opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist to be based in either our Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC offices. This is an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join our team of outstanding professionals. Dewberry is seeking candidates who are knowledgeable in the identification of Threatened and Endangered (T&E) Species and their habitats; this position will focus on aquatic species survey and reporting work. Candidates should be able to prepare ecological assessments and perform threatened and endangered species surveys; experience with NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Natural Resource Technical Reports (NRTR) and with Section 7 documentation requirements is preferred. Individuals also should have knowledge of permit requirements of the federal and state agencies with jurisdiction over T&E species as well as NEPA/ NCEPA documentation requirements related to T&E species. Coordination with federal, state, and local regulators is also expected.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities could include assisting with Waters of the U.S. delineations, Section 404/401 permitting efforts, and other T&E species surveys and reporting. The job will require both in-office work and fieldwork, leading or assisting with natural resource surveys as needed.

This position will also involve preparation of project-level proposals and related marketing efforts and be responsible for contract execution and project budget/schedule compliance.



Required Skills & Required Experience

    Bachelor's degree in environmental science or a related field.
  • Must have (and be able to maintain) the appropriate NCWRC Endangered Species Permits required to conduct aquatic species surveys in North Carolina, including permits for mussel and fish species. Permits/certifications to conduct similar species surveys in Virginia and/or South Carolina is a plus.
  • At least 10 years of work experience is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and manage project budgets preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications, including GIS and MS Office applications
  • Additional Requirements: Statewide/regional travel will be required for this position
