Laboratory Quality Specialist


Will go in between both Sheboygan and Manitowoc clinic



This position will work at a full time status of 32 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible based on department and candidate needs.

Job Summary
The Laboratory Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring high standards of quality assurance and compliance within the laboratory. This role oversees the development, validation, and calibration of lab equipment, conducts troubleshooting, and ensures continuous operation of instruments. The specialist analyzes patient samples, interprets results, and acts as a technical resource, providing staff training and support. They collaborate closely with Prevea and HSHS Laboratories, participate in quality assurance programs, and write and revise validation protocols, all while maintaining operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

What you will do



  • Lead the development, modification, validation, calibration, and implementation of laboratory equipment, procedures, and software systems.
  • Perform daily maintenance, troubleshoot automated and manual test methods, and resolve instrument issues; document actions in the Quality Assessment log.
  • Analyze patient samples, interpret test results for waived, moderate, and high complexity tests, and enter results into databases, ensuring continuous operation by monitoring reagents, parts, and supplies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for staff, providing training on new analyzers, maintaining training documentation per COLA regulations, and assisting with competency development.
  • Write and revise department IQCPs, validation protocols, and qualification documents, including calibration verifications, installation qualifications, and process validations.
  • Participate in quality assurance (QA) and compliance programs, supporting leadership with data collection, investigations, and inspections, while monitoring critical value logs.
  • Act as a liaison between Prevea and HSHS Laboratories, attending divisional and leadership meetings, and providing technical assistance for validation and cross-functional analyzers.
  • Support continuing education opportunities for staff and provide instruction to students and new employees on laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Assist in staff scheduling and fulfill other duties as required.


Education Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field Required
  • Graduation from a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory professional program Required


Experience Qualifications



  • 2 years work experience in a non-waived clinical lab Required
  • Previous work experience with lab analyzer(s) Preferred
  • Previous experience working on Lab Information Systems (LIS) projects Preferred

  • Possess effective written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology and laboratory equipment/care of equipment.
  • Must be able to follow written protocols, utilizing specific laboratory training to perform laboratory testing.
  • Must be able to interpret and analyze numerical data in relation to known patient information and testing methodology,
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Fosters work and patient/customer relationships through excellent interpersonal skills and behaviors.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet changing demands.
  • Possess skills to effectively problem solve.

Licenses and Certifications



  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technician (AMT) Upon Hire Required
