Requisition Id15388 Overview: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will work at the interface between three different groups: the Single Crystal Diffraction Group in the Neutron Scattering Division (NSD), the Instrument Development group in the Neutron Technology Division (both part of theNeutron Sciences DirectorateatOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL), and the Neutron and X-ray Scattering Group in the Materials Science and Technology Division of the Physical Science Directorate. NScD operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States' highest flux reactor-based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world's most intense pulsed accelerator-based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out more than 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL, please go to this link:http://neutrons.ornl.gov. Together with an interdisciplinary team, you will investigate the fundamental limits and expand understanding of the applications of correlation methods for neutron scattering by characterizing the performance of the current and future correlation choppers. This work will include performing experiments at CORELLI, the diffuse scattering instrument at SNS, and analysis of inelastic components arising from dynamic instabilities in materials; development of a polarization-based correlation chopper prototype; simulation of instrumentation using McStas; analytics of materials structure and dynamics using neutron scattering. Depending on your skills, you will be able to focus on your area of expertise within programmatic and funding requirements. This work will be conducted collaboratively with other scientists within the Neutron Scattering Division, providing an opportunity to work in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment.
