Job Summary

The Physical Therapist 3 (PT 3) is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and delivering Physical Therapy services, primarily for patients with neurologic conditions, as well as other patient populations, as assigned by the Director of Therapy. As a clinical specialist, the Physical Therapist 3 provides training and guidance to Physical Therapy staff within their area of expertise and serves as a resource for other therapists working with neurological patients. This position requires staying current with advances in the field and sharing knowledge with the broader healthcare team. The PT 3 holds qualifications that are recognized and respected within the professional community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, coordinate, and provide physical therapy services primarily for patients with neurological conditions, and other patient populations as assigned.
  • Serve as a clinical specialist and subject matter expert in neurologic physical therapy.
  • Train and mentor physical therapy staff within the area of expertise.
  • Act as a resource and consultant for other physical therapy personnel working with neurologic patients.
  • Stay current with advances in physical therapy practice, research, and techniques.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with the broader healthcare team.
  • Maintain professional qualifications and uphold standards recognized in the field.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • California Licensed Physical Therapist
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Must have graduated from an accredited physical therapy program (Bachelor's degree or higher) in the U.S., or completed requirements for foreign-trained physical therapists working in the U.S.
  • Two years of minimum recent experience as a Physical Therapist
  • Must have experience treating patients with neurological conditions
  • Advanced knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles, and techniques of patient care related to Physical Therapy as identified by Physical Therapy Practice Act and licensure by the State of California, with specialized knowledge in the area of Neuro Physical Therapy
  • Advanced skills to establish and follow/ provide a plan of care appropriate to patients with neurological conditions, and other patients with a variety of diagnoses
  • Advanced ability to serve as a resource for staff in the area of neurorehabilitation
  • Ability to educate and train professional staff within the health system and in the community
  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication; able to effectively communicate with staff in a clear, concise, professional manner, and able to establish rapport and communicate well with patients and family members
  • Ability to triage, schedule, and assign caseload with an average daily census on the therapy service
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility with daily job functions in a dynamic work environment where priorities and situations may change day to day and throughout the day
  • Skills in clinical and non-clinical judgment
  • Skills in the area of leadership
  • Organizational and development skills
  • Skills and ability to work in stressful situations
  • Highly developed tact and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to provide and accept guidance and criticism

Preferred Qualifications

  • APTA Clinical Educator Certification or willingness to obtain CI
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills

Department Overview

The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The rehabilitation hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.
