TITLE:Maintenance Mechanic Lead



POSITION OBJECTIVE:The lead maintenance Mechanic for High-Speed Packaging is responsible for the reliability, efficiency, and performance of all high-speed packaging equipment including powder lines. This role ensures optimal production output by leading maintenance activities, troubleshooting issues, performing preventive and predictive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The position also provides technical leadership, guidance, and training to packaging mechanics and operators on packaging equipment operations.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
  • Minimum 6-year years mechanical experience, industrial or manufacturing equipment or related maintenance technician experience required.
  • Previous experience in Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical or food industry is a plus.
  • High School or HS Equivalent and Technical School, Electrical Controls System or Equivalent.
  • Knowledge of general Hi- Speed packaging lines maintenance and equipment maintenance required, including but not limited to knowledge of electrical systems, electronic parts, PLC, HMI and repairs, digital equipment maintenance, mechanical maintenance and repairs, physical plant maintenance and repairs, knowledge of Lockout/Tag out procedures and MSDS.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Manage and oversee the performance of high-speed packaging lines, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and adjustments on packaging machinery including conveyors, fillers, cappers, cartoners, labelers, and case packers.
  • Lead and execute preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to avoid equipment failure and improve line reliability.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors and line leads to address equipment concerns and support smooth shift operations.
  • Document maintenance activities, work orders, and parts usage in the CMMS maintenance Connection system.
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff and line operators on best practices for operating and maintaining packaging equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, GMPs, and company quality standards during all maintenance activities.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to reduce downtime, enhance line speed, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Support capital projects and equipment upgrades related to packaging operations.
  • Maintain critical spare parts inventory for packaging equipment.
  • Manage daily operation of all high-speed packaging equipment, ensuring optimal performance, minimal downtime, and maximum throughput.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on high-speed equipment.
  • Distribute daily tasks among packaging mechanics, ensuring preventive and corrective maintenance is completed on time.
  • Provide on-the-job training for junior mechanics, focusing on technical skills, safety standards, and best practices in packaging operations.
  • Collaborate with production to align maintenance priorities with production goals and schedules
  • Set up, calibrate, and fine-tune high-speed machinery to meet product specifications and minimize waste.
  • Ensure accurate completion of maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment performance reports.
  • Lead and support efficient changeovers between product runs to reduce downtime.
  • Verify that all machinery and maintenance practices meet GMP, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Identify recurring issues and propose equipment upgrades, preventive measures, or procedural changes to improve line efficiency.
  • Ability to follow Preventive Maintenance program and document all repairs and maintenance performed on equipment.



PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:



  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to stand for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, holidays, weekends, on short notice, as needed.
  • Flexibility to work longer hours to meet deadlines, as needed.
  • Availability to workday shift or night shift, and accommodate change of shift, if needed.
  • Must have excellent manual dexterity.
