The Bright Horizons' Privacy Team ensures that Bright Horizons handles personal information responsibly and in compliance with relevant privacy laws and regulations. The Privacy Team's goals are to protect personal information, build trust, reduce risks and enhance business practices. We strive for continuous improvement and the advancement of Bright Horizons' privacy policies and procedures.

We are seeking a skilled privacy and contracts counsel to join our global privacy team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with a strong background in data privacy and commercial contracts, who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional, global environment. You will be responsible for providing strategic and solutions-oriented advice on global privacy laws, managing data protection compliance, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.

This Hybrid role requires in-person work at our Newton, MA headquarters.

Job Responsibilities
  • Advise, draft, review and negotiate data protection agreements/clauses with a wide-range of vendors and clients including managing from end to end the full contract lifecycle in accordance with company procedures and business requirements.

  • Review contract templates and on-boarding procedures to mitigate legal and business risk, and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of legal contracting.

  • Keep up to date on privacy law developments that will impact the business, its clients and the sector (e.g., evolving guidance out of the European Union, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States, including developments in e-privacy and Artificial Intelligence).

  • Evaluate the applicability and impact of global privacy laws and regulatory guidance and provide legal advice to internal and external Bright Horizons teams.

  • Support new projects, applications and systems on the privacy implications and compliance requirements, with emphasis on privacy by default and design requirements and assessing privacy risks.

  • Support Data Protection / Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs); Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), data subject rights requests and reports of potential data/privacy incidents as required.

  • Support the development, review and update of privacy policies, programs, and procedures to align with legal requirements and best practices.

  • Address and manage ad hoc activities as assigned by members of the Privacy Team and any other duties commensurate with the role.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA accredited law school and member of a state bar in good standing - Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in privacy law and commercial contracts with a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both - Required
Additional Job Requirements
  • CIPP/E, CIPP/US or similar certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of global privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, US state privacy laws, etc.).

  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts for a non-legal audience.

  • Ability to give commercially practical legal advice that balances and protects the risks to the business.

  • Experience in managing large workloads and taking ownership of issues and projects, including strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform consistently under pressure and meet demanding deadlines and provide timely, actionable advice.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, in particular in contributing to global and multi-functional teams.

  • Hardworking, flexible and willing to be available when required to support the business' global offices.

  • Exceptional written, oral and presentation skills.
