Responsibilities:


  • Diagnose repair needs and perform designated repairs on Caterpillar and related construction equipment at customer sites or in the field.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using diagnostic tools, including laptops, gauges, and instruments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Disassemble and reassemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using appropriate hand tools, pneumatic tools, and Fabick-provided specialty tooling.
  • Occasionally operate equipment to assess repair needs and verify repairs.
  • Use CAT service manuals, schematics, and technical resources to guide repair processes.
  • Perform basic welding tasks as needed for field repairs.
  • Research parts requirements and assist in ordering necessary components.
  • Load and unload equipment or components from customer or carrier vehicles when needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to OSHA safety standards and all Fabick Cat safety policies.
  • Accurately complete service reports, work orders, and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Represent Fabick Cat professionally at customer sites, ensuring excellent communication and service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical, vocational, or trade school education related to diesel or heavy equipment technology required.
  • 2-5 years of recent experience troubleshooting and repairing construction heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, and graders.
  • Proficient in diagnosing equipment using laptops, gauges, and instruments across all systems, including electronics, hydraulics, powertrain, engines, and overall machine performance.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with heavy equipment, mining equipment, engines, and related components.
  • Ability to work independently on customer job sites with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of safety and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to make quick, accurate decisions in the field.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; must be able to clearly explain repairs and recommendations to customers.
  • Demonstrates good work habits and above-average skills in math, science, and English.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to high performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills desired.
  • MSHA certification or ability to obtain certification required.


Preferred:



  • Technical, vocational, or trade school education related to diesel or heavy equipment technology required.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing Caterpillar construction equipment in the field; experience with equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, and graders is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced in diagnosing equipment using laptops, gauges, and instruments across all systems, including electronics, hydraulics, powertrain, engines, and overall machine performance.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAT construction equipment systems and components, including up-to-date knowledge of current models and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently on customer job sites without supervision while maintaining a high standard of safety and professionalism.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAT service manuals and schematics.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and effective oral and written communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with CAT software and diagnostic platforms.
  • Must have or be able to obtain MSHA certification.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required; CDL may be preferred or required depending on location.



Physical Requirements:


In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
