Job Summary

Performs holistic vehicle oversight and work coordination within the Ambulance Services Department. Responsible for maintaining operational mechanical readiness for fleet and coordinating and executing scheduled and unscheduled repairs under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor. This includes monitoring all day-to-day vehicle operations including all aspects of vehicle safety and inspections

Essential Functions

  • Performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, hydraulics, and other components.

  • Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and services to minimize breakdowns and extend vehicle life.

  • Troubleshoots complex mechanical and electrical issues, recommending cost-effective solutions.

  • Leads, mentors, and trains junior mechanics; provides guidance on best practices and safe work procedures.

  • Assists with scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating repair and maintenance work to maximize fleet availability.

  • Maintains accurate records of repairs, services, parts usage, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures all work is performed in accordance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.).

  • Supports parts inventory management, including ordering, tracking, and ensuring proper stock levels.

  • Collaborates with supervisors and operations staff to identify fleet needs, develop repair strategies, and improve service efficiency.

  • Operates diagnostic equipment, tools, and software to identify issues and verify repairs.

  • Responds to road calls or emergency repairs when necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned preferred

  • Experience - Five (5) years diesel and gas engine mechanical experience. Emergency vehicle experience preferred

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance. Driving is required for this position using Prisma Health vehicle. Team members will be expected to adhere to the Prisma Health Driver Safety Policy and specific department driving policies. Team members must pass driver training. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and operate handicap accessible vehicles.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or other trade mechanical certifications. - Preferred

  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification - Preferred

  • Class "E" or CDL license - Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of required ambulance maintenance

  • Knowledge of DHEC requirements for ambulance and licensing.

  • Basic computer skills

  • Data entry skills

  • Proficient in Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
