Assistant Project Manager

Purpose
Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team performing technical, biological, and administrative support. Assists in the coordination, implementation, and management of habitat restoration, mine reclamation, and land stewardship projects. Works on projects of various sizes and locations, adhering to timelines and expectations of project clients, maintaining the quality of project deliverables, and supporting business development. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties. Must be able to set priorities, take ownership of project tasks, work efficiently, and provide a consistent level of high-quality work in a high-pressure environment. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and clients. This position will work closely with project managers, ecologists, engineers, and/or clients.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Assist Project Managers with updating schedules, researching materials, and preparing submittals.
  2. Collaborate with project team members to compile quarterly summaries and prepare invoices.
  3. Participate in various restoration activities, including installing native plants, broadcast seeding, irrigation installation and maintenance, herbivory protection, and invasive weed management.
  4. Collect and analyze field monitoring data to prepare detailed annual reports.
  5. Use ESRI products (ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps) for data collection, analysis, planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  6. Assist in the preparation of biological resources reports, reclamation plans, invasive weed management plans, and land stewardship plans.
  7. Provide various administrative support, including data entry, organizing project files, ordering supplies, and reviewing projects out to bid.
  8. Remain current on relevant scientific topics and permitting requirements that are important to assigned projects. Implement test plots and other experiments to further research various aspects of restoration.
  9. Attend meetings and site inspections with construction teams, consultants, and project owners.
  10. Work safely in rough terrain, inclement weather, and other environmental situations.
  11. Embrace a culture where safety is expressed as a core value through support of safety programs.
  12. Reports directly to the Senior Land Restoration Project Manager.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Botany, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or Natural Resource Management or minimum 2 years' experience in habitat restoration is preferred.
Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • Familiarity with local flora and fauna, plant taxonomy, soils, ecology, and environmental statistics.
  • Ability to manage multiple and conflicting deadlines, excellent time management skills, strong intrapersonal skills, and a willingness to be flexible in approaches to completing tasks.
  • Detailed oriented and possess a high level of self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication and people skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and GIS.
Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
  • Valid Driver's California License.
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work on projects requiring occasional overnight traveling.

Equipment Used:
  • Automobile (truck), laptop, small tools, and GPS equipment.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical: Carrying loads of 20-30 pounds for extended periods. Works both alone and as a team in remote areas. Occasionally works on projects requiring long days and overnight stays.
  • Work Environment: Job sites include uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
