This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will plan, manage, and execute refurbishment operations of the New Glenn Rocket's 1st Stage. You will define specific refurbishment processes based on vehicle design, setup work centers, specify and order tooling/equipment, author work instructions, troubleshoot and resolve non-conformances, and lead operations involving the refurbishment of flown tails for successful re-flights. On this team, you will have the ability to impact the industry by shaping New Glenn's reusability operating plan. This role will require you to interact with the vehicle to proactively eliminate barriers and troubleshoot unforeseen technical problems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Play a key role in the evolution of the New Glenn vehicle systems by evaluating current designs and architectures to support high cadence refurbishment operations
  • Provide shipside support during test, inspection and work execution
  • Author, release and maintain work instructions
  • Coordinate with New Glenn manufacturing to allow shared common resources and procedures to support refurbishment operations
  • Collaborate with New Glenn design engineers in the creation of refurbishment requirements
  • Define and manage the support material, equipment and personnel resources needed for successfully planning and executing refurbishment activities
  • Lead and facilitate root cause and corrective action investigations related to product reliability
  • Enforce safety policies during testing and refurbishment
  • Develop tooling concepts for refurbishment operations use and accessibility

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 10+ Years Experience operating or around flight vehicle systems
  • Experience with designing, building, maintaining or operating vehicle systems
  • Experience with aerospace system functional checks
  • Strong safety record and mindset, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical tests and operations
  • Strong personnel, planning, and project management skills
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Travel periodically, less than 10%
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, and weekends when necessary
  • Proficiency in CREO and CATIA
  • Experience in tooling design, analysis, and fabrication.

Desired:

  • Experience developing procedures for inspection, testing, checkout, installation and maintenance of orbital class launch vehicles
  • Experience with aerospace vehicle systems and manufacturing technologies
  • Experience working in a product design or manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (i.e. MSOffice, Jules, Aeon, Windchill, PLM, etc)
  • Experience with thermal protection systems such as cork, foam insulation, COMET, or carbon-carbon is a plus

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
