Purpose of Job This position is responsible for serving both internal and external customers by performing a variety of histological procedures in accordance with Ridgeview Medical Center philosophy, policies, and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies. Focus areas include the histology department for which the Lead is responsible. Lead is tasked with oversight of daily operations within the department, ensuring timely completion of tasks and workflow efficiency. Job Functions
Performs Histotechnologist II job functions.
Assists in performance management for histology staff and is responsible for guiding, training, coaching, supporting and developing technical abilities.
Assists with interviewing and selection of new employees and projecting budgetary needs and maintaining current budget.
Delegates tasks for, and/or evaluates new products, reagents, and instrumentation specific to histology.
Directs troubleshooting and corrective action on histology instrumentation including tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, and staining platforms.
Responsible for quality control and proficiency testing protocols in the histology department.
Develops and maintains procedures for training, workflow efficiency, and instrumentation and directs appropriate staff to assist.
Maintains all regulatory requirements for the histology department in preparation for surveys and inspections (e.g., CAP, CLIA).
Ensures proper specimen handling, fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques are followed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Associate's degree in Histology or equivalent
- Certified or Certification eligible as a Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical pathology board of registry or as a Histotechnician by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel or equivalent per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by the first year of employment and kept current according to ASCP standards.

Ability to maintain technical competence in histological techniques
