Department Summary The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health and urban design. Position Overview The Senior Academic Advisor provides comprehensive support to FTIC, transfer, and non-traditional students within the College of Health & Public Service. This role involves guiding students through degree requirements, course planning and graduation processes while promoting student engagement and academic success. The advisor serves as a subject matter expert for specialized majors, supports curriculum development and collaborates with college leadership to implement advising initiatives and ensure alignment with institutional policies. This position also contributes to advisor training, quality assurance and strategic efforts to meet targeted student outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong presentation, conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities. Skilled in engaging differing populations through effective verbal and written communication across internal and external groups. Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships. Demonstrated success in managing projects and leading cross-functional teams to achieve strategic goals. Preferred Qualifications 1. Extensive experience and advanced knowledge of student advising practices, including familiarity with university and college policies and procedures.
