The Department of Radiology is seeking a highly motivated Research Specialist to join our NIH-funded research program focused on the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for kidney imaging. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in Radiology. The individual will be responsible for data management, algorithm development, and collaborative research tasks that advance the project's scientific aims.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Data Management: Curate, organize, and maintain large imaging datasets.

  • AI Model Development: Develop, implement, and optimize machine learning and deep learning models for image analysis.

  • Image Processing: Perform image preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, and quantitative analysis.

  • Code & Workflow Documentation: Document and maintain reproducible code, pipelines, and workflows.

  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analyses and assist with interpretation of model outputs.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Contribute to maintaining compliance with data security and regulatory requirements.

  • Communication & Visualization: Collaborate closely with radiologists, imaging scientists, and clinical investigators to integrate domain knowledge into AI approaches. Prepare data visualizations, figures, and technical summaries for manuscripts, presentations, and progress reports.

Additonal Information:


  • The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire.
  • This position is grant-funded for up to 4 years, with potential for extension or early completion based on research needs and funding availability.
  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
  • Successful Candidates will address the following knowledge, skills and abilities in their cover letter: experience with programming platforms, medical imaging data, image processing tools, machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $54,050.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

  • Experience with medical imaging data (DICOM) and image processing tools.

  • Familiarity with machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.


Education: Bachelor's Degree Required; focus in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical physics, data science, or related field.

Candidates with a Masters Degree will be given first consideration.
