Job Summary:

The General Manager is responsible for the overall performance and profitability of the service center. This role ensures operational excellence across all aspects of the moving and storage business, including local and interstate residential, commercial, and military relocations. The General Manager provides leadership to employees, ensures compliance with company policies and government regulations, and fosters a positive customer and employee experience through efficient operations and effective decision-making.

Essential Functions:

Financial Leadership

  • Review and analyze financial statements to identify opportunities for improvement and cost control.
  • Manage location budgets and drive profitability through revenue growth and expense management.

Operational Oversight

  • Direct daily operations of the office, warehouse, and field workforce, ensuring efficient and profitable execution.
  • Monitor dispatching, routing, and scheduling of drivers, packers, and helpers.
  • Ensure compliance with company systems, safety standards, and government regulations.

Sales Leadership

  • Manage, train, and hold accountable the branch sales team to achieve revenue and margin targets.
  • Oversee lead generation, estimate quality, closing ratios, and customer follow-up.
  • Implement sales strategies that align with company objectives and market conditions.
  • Recruit, develop, and evaluate sales staff to ensure consistent performance and growth.

People Management

  • Hire, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline or terminate employees across operations and admin roles.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to staff.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and professional work environment.

Customer Experience

  • Resolve escalated customer issues and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Maintain quality standards and service levels for all moves.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through efficient processes and employee training.

Business Development

  • Develop local marketing strategies to generate leads and capture new business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, referral partners, and key accounts.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Approve and transmit invoices, purchase orders, and payroll to corporate.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, military, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Report significant issues or risks to the Regional Vice President.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of moving and storage operations (residential, commercial, and military).
  • Solid understanding of logistics, transportation, and warehouse management.
  • Financial acumen with the ability to interpret P&L statements.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Military or government contract moving experience.
  • Required: 3-5 years of managerial experience in logistics, transportation, or moving & storage.
  • Required: Proven track record of leading teams to achieve operational and financial goals.

Working Conditions:

  • Mostly indoors, working outdoors is sometimes required
  • Lifting in excess of 20 lbs is sometimes required
  • Lifting in excess of 50 lbs is rarely required
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends, particularly during peak summer season.
  • Travel may be required for training, meetings, or regional support.
