Job Summary

The Family Navigator 3 plays a vital role in supporting families as equal partners in the planning, development, and implementation of health and mental health services. Using a trauma-informed approach, the Family Navigator 3 helps families access housing support, connect with community resources, navigate county systems, and understand treatment options.

This role works closely with community service providers and healthcare teams to identify family preferences, address barriers to care, and ensure treatment plans are effectively implemented. The Family Navigator 3 advocates for families and children, fostering strong collaboration among mental health providers, community agencies, child welfare, and healthcare systems to promote continuity of care and prevent fragmentation.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or 2 years demonstrated relevant experience/training.
  • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team supporting mental health therapists or pediatricians.
  • Experience working with maltreated children and/or child serving systems (e.g., Child Protective Services, Behavioral Health Services, Alta Regional Center).
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, or economically diverse populations.
  • Experience using interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and listening), working diplomatically with diverse groups of individuals (children and their caregivers, other staff members, social workers, and representatives of community agencies); conveying instructions, directions, and information appropriately and accurately.
  • Experience with various business software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office) and technology to navigate web-based platforms to obtain needed information and document case notes.
  • Ability to work as a team member or independently with a minimum of directions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, with decision being reviewed if they represent departure from departmental goals.
  • Ability to plan and organize a variety of concurrent activities, set realistic goals and objectives, plan ahead and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Ability to direct the action of others effectively in order to accomplish tasks and functions.
  • Strength-based perspective when assessing clients.
  • Ability to successfully manage conflict.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work culture that supports the mission and goals of the organization including establishing and maintaining respectful, and professional relationships.
  • Ability to use supervision to enhance professional growth and examine performance outcome.
  • Knowledge of child, elder abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements, and other significant legislation and laws regulating health and mental health practice with children connected with the child welfare system.
  • Skills, knowledge and ability to support the policies and procedures of the CAARE Center and UC Davis Health System.
  • Experience organizing a variety of concurrent activities, setting realistic goals and objectives, planning, and meeting deadlines without compromising quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills- providing services in Spanish
  • Experience working in a medical setting serving children.
  • Experience working in an integrated care clinic.
  • Trained to understand the effects of trauma on children's health and mental health.

Department Overview

The Department of Pediatrics is committed to creating the healthiest future for all children and families through exceptional patient care, transformative research, innovative medical education, and community-based advocacy.

As part of this mission, the CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center provides trauma-informed mental health care, teaching, and research for abused, neglected, and at-risk children. The CAARE Center specializes in evidence-based treatment for childhood trauma within a multidisciplinary setting that values both patient care and staff wellness.

Mental health services are delivered to children and youth ages 0-21 across a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, pediatric clinics, juvenile hall, and community-based programs supported through service contracts and grants.
