| Description Position Summary:
 
 The Research Scientist acts as an investigator in the Center for Biomedical Informatics charged with developing and leading research projects in a collaborative and multidisciplinary effort with other investigators and staff at the Regenstrief Institute that will be competitive for extramural funding. The researcher will both a) support research projects of other investigators and b) lead research projects they pursue as part of a research agenda.
 
 The successful candidate will have experience in designing interventions, implementing systems, and conducting evaluations in the field of biomedical informatics, and they are expected to work closely with faculty from across Regenstrief Institute to contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of research projects in support of the Institute's mission. The investigator will work closely to support projects in collaboration with the Institute's Office of Strategic Innovation. Given expected future work, successful candidates will have experience or skills that will enable implementation and evaluation of clinical AI (artificial intelligence) interventions.Reports to: 
 
 Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics This role is a HYBRID working model with 1 to 2 days onsite based on business needs. Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  Qualifications and Requirements:
 
 Education and Experience
 In collaboration with the CBMI Director and Director of Center Operations, manage and set research and development priorities across projects aligned with the Regenstrief Institute's mission in areas related to biomedical informatics.
 
Lead and/or assist with research coordination, project design, implementation, and evaluation of research projects. May provide guidance to other staff members.
 
Prepares protocols, analyses, reports, and other documentation for publications.
 
Presents findings at local, national, and or international meetings.
 
Participates in the dissemination of research findings with Institute stakeholders and the public.
 
Provides technical guidance and consultation to co-workers, collaborators, and or students.
 
Develops and supports methods to identify funding opportunities aligned with CBMI and establish cross-disciplinary teams to apply for funding, e.g., NIH, NSF, PCORI, AHRQ, etc.
 
Prepares grant/contract proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities.
 
Negotiates the scope of work and timeframes for successful conduct of research projects with funders and external stakeholders.
 
Performance of other duties as assigned.
 
 
  Language Skills
 Requires a terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, DBMI) in a relevant scientific field (biomedical informatics, epidemiology, health policy management, computer science, data science, or related field).   Requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant research experience in biomedical informatics, health services research, public health, or similar field. Experience in machine learning and/or AI research preferred. 
 
Requires proven/successful experience in establishing and executing research projects. Experience working on/securing external grant support and experience in activities consistent with Regenstrief's overall mission is preferred.
 
Requires the ability to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, including networks of academic, health care systems, government agencies, non-profits, community groups, and industry partners. Experience working in or with industry partners preferred.
 
Requires the ability to maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
 
Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse individuals.
 
Requires the ability to work with multiple projects at the same time. Prior experience acting as a project manager strongly preferred.

 Requires ability to manage and record research data, especially protected health information (PHI)
 
Requires high proficiency with statistical software, including but not limited to SAS, Stata, and R; experience with SQL and Python preferred.
 
Requires familiarity with clinical AI technologies; experience implementing and evaluating clinical AI solutions preferred. Highly proficient computer skills, including extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and e-mail systems; Knowledge and experience with high performance computing systems preferred.
 
Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones
 
Strong ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, and knowledge of statistical terms, methods, and skills used to summarize, describe, and analyze a collection of data
