DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Mechanic Supervisor, you will be responsible for assessing and determining the necessary repairs for equipment, as well as overseeing the workforce to ensure repairs are effectively completed. Specific duties entail planning, scheduling, and providing direct supervision to mechanics troubleshooting and repairing a variety of construction equipment and hand tools powered by gasoline or diesel engines, with hydraulic, electrical, heating and cooling, manual and automatic transmissions, exhaust and drive train systems. You will demonstrate repair techniques on equipment to other subordinates, provide assistance to Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics in making major repairs to equipment, and maintain detailed equipment records.

In addition, you will also be identified as a purchasing cardholder for the department and be tasked with ensuring that all purchases are compliant with the Commonwealth's and the department's purchasing card rules and regulations. This work requires excellent networking and organizational skills in order to collaborate with vendors, requestors, and other Commonwealth staff concerning purchasing requirements, delivery logistics, and payment issues. This position will allow you to employ your abilities and expertise in managing equipment repairs and optimizing the performance of the workforce under your leadership.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake restriction (L) removed, supplemented by Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) and Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H).
  • This position requires possession of an active Class 4 or Class 7 Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification.
