Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Quality Coordinator has responsibility for the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement and patient safety activities for the Anesthesiology Performance Improvement and Reporting Exchange (ASPIRE), a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-funded Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). ASPIRE is a statewide anesthesiology CQI focused on improving the safety, quality, and value of care for patients receiving anesthesia services in Michigan. By collecting and analyzing anesthesia-specific quality measures, ASPIRE works with clinicians and hospitals to reduce variation, disseminate best practices, and implement quality improvement strategies that improve outcomes and patient experience. The Quality Coordinator is responsible for accurate and timely abstraction, analysis, and reporting of data elements for eligible cases, engagement in ASPIRE training and meetings, and support of local quality improvement initiatives informed by ASPIRE measures. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. - Collect, analyze, and report clinical data elements as required for participation in the ASPIRE Collaborative Quality Initiative, determining data accuracy on an ongoing basis.
- Perform clinical content mapping and transfer of data to the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) Coordinating Center on a monthly basis.
- Independently manage case load and meet ASPIRE Coordinating Center deadlines and reporting standards.
- Meet regularly with the Quality Champion to review ASPIRE data and identify quality improvement opportunities.
- Actively engage in ASPIRE activities, including identifying opportunities to improve anesthesia-related quality of care, collaborating with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, nurses, and administrators.
- Attend ASPIRE Collaborative meetings (typically 3 times annually held off-site), training sessions, Quality Committee meetings (typically 5-6 annually held virtually) and webinars; represent the institution at consortium and data abstractor meetings.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the ASPIRE clinical champion(s) and Coordinating Center.
- Prepare for and participate in site audits by the ASPIRE Coordinating Center, resolve data discrepancies, and respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Support institutional patient safety and quality improvement initiatives related to anesthesia care, including adverse event analysis, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary team activities.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant accreditation standards, healthcare trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide education and consultation for hospital staff and physicians on quality improvement initiatives informed by ASPIRE data.
- Develop aggregate summaries of quality improvement data for hospital committees, medical staff, and public reporting as appropriate.
- Implementation of Quality Improvement projects through use of available tools provided by ASPIRE to make informed decisions about improving care to patients undergoing anesthesia with direction from the Quality Champion.

Work Experience |
* Minimum of three years clinical experience in perioperative nursing. * Previous experience with clinical chart review, data abstraction from medical records, and/or analyzing and interpreting processes of care and clinical outcomes |
Education |
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple competing/shifting priorities and deadlines with minimal direct supervision. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to successfully work with multidisciplinary teams. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suites (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Drive), DropBox, and Zoom. |
