Job Description

SoftLite in Streetsboro, Ohio is looking for a Process Engineer to join the Operations Team on first shift.

SoftLite Windows & Doors, a business of Cornerstone Building Brands, manufactures premium vinyl replacement windows. We pride ourselves on offering high-quality, energy-efficient windows and doors that are ENERGY STARcertified to meet the needs of homeowners.

Preferred candidates are a degreed engineer, bilingual with a strong aptitude for problem solving, lean or continuous improvement background who values the attention to detail, a proactive mindset and a high degree of organizational skills.

The Process Engineer position will lead Streetsboro, Ohio process development, continuous improvement activities and manage all capital investment projects. Including but not limited to the following:

  • Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives
    1. Identify cost improvement initiatives for operations to improve efficiency, create capacity and grow business
    2. Perform evaluations shop floor layouts to drive process flow improvements and business growth
    3. Actively support the sustainability of 5S efforts
    4. Define and implement benchmarking measures to minimize waste, improve operational efficiency and reduce potential for quality issues
  • Fabrication and Shop Experience
    1. Provide start to finish fabrication leadership for internal and external sources on tables, guards, etc....
    2. Interface with vendors for components, manufacturing, and assembly processes
    3. Design and build prototypes for testing
    4. Experience with various metals, materials, and wood
    5. Capable of running air and power lines on shop floor
  • Capital Projects & Planning.
    1. Assist in process layout changes, relocations, and start-ups of equipment
    2. Develop quotes a with appropriate suppliers and installation plans for all capital projects
    3. Manage overall Capital Plan for current and future years. Manage overall dollars spent, planned dollars, asset acquisition, asset install planning, training, spare parts proposals, and supplier management.
    4. Prepare Capital proposals based on replacement, cost improvements, operational efficiency, and ergonomic improvements with justifiable ROI's analysis
  • Supporting Plant Operations
    1. Lead lean training and lean initiatives
    2. Conduct kaizen events with team members to solve complex issues
    3. Write standard work for operations and maintenance
    4. Root cause analysis on safety, quality, machine, and production problems
    5. Diagnose and repair common machine concerns
    6. Liaison between maintenance team and equipment suppliers for support, training, and installation
    7. Improve worker safety and work environment by supporting the plant safety teams through training and evaluation of lifting and movements for ergonomic improvement opportunities and resolve JSA's and Safety Observations.
    8. Support Quality and actively participate in plant scrap reduction by supporting the Quality Assurance team in process control systems and customer complaints.

This role reports directly to the SoftLite Plant Manager. Streetsboro is the manufacturing location for SoftLite as part of the Cornerstone Building Brand business. The candidate will be a key contributor, driving process improvements and playing a pivotal role in process development, the lean manufacturing mindset, process efficiency gains and capital projects.

The focus of this role is to improve MPO (Minutes per opening), improve FTY (First Time Yield), manage and develop capital projects with sustainable ROI's and enhance operational performance.

  • The Process Engineer will work directly with the Plant Manager, Production Managers, Maintenance, Quality, and Safety to drive improvement for the site.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & PREFFERED SKILLS:

  • Excellent analytical and math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to persuade others to change existing practices
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Proven experience in influencing, leading cross functional teams and driving change results
  • Proficiency in CAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proactive Mentality with hands-on approach
  • Strong manufacturing/operations background
  • Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma
  • History of successful lean manufacturing events and activities
  • Demonstrated problem solving, manufacturing practice applications (e.g., SPC, Flow Charts, standardized work, KAIZEN, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and achieve results.
  • Demonstrates personal leadership skills; high performance behaviors, self-initiative, excellent work ethic, exercises good judgment, influencing, mentoring, coaching, negotiation, and collaboration.
  • Willingness to work across multiple shifts to ensure projects and initiatives are successful.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Mechanical or other Engineering related field.
  • 3+ years manufacturing experience in a lean manufacturing principle, preferred but not required
  • 3+ years Management experience preferred not required
