Duke University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an opening as a Postdoctoral Associate in Dr. Danny Schust's lab supporting research on preeclampsia and requires an individual to run ongoing and planned experiments. This position ison-site. Projects include: * Establishment of a human stem-cell derived endometrial organoid model for use in co-culture to study pre-eclampsia and related peri-implantation disorders * Expansion of a human preeclampsia trophoblast stem cell biobank for use in co-culture with immune and endometrial models * Training of undergraduates and fellows in the lab who are working on the above two projects * Assist in establishing a hypoxia-induced pre-eclampsia mouse model Minimum Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred. Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements: * The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year) * The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities. * The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full time academic or research career. * The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment. * The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University. * The appointee has the freedom, and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment. Be Bold. * Maintain laboratory and associated equipment in a clean, well-ordered, and functional manner. Keep supplies on hand with a well-planned inventory and ordering system. * 2D cell culture and 3D stem cell culture, human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation, endometrium/trophoblast model * co-culture, likely in the presence of immune or vascular cells * Prepare cell culture samples for immunofluorescence staining (IF) or immunohistochemistry staining (IHC) including embedding samples for paraffin sections, staining fixed samples with antibodies and imaging using light, fluorescence and confocal microscopes. Analyze images using image analysis software, obtain data for publication. * Prepare protein for western blots and analyze data. * Design and perform molecular assays including but not limited to DNA extraction, RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR and prepare single cell for single cell RNA sequencing testing and analyses. * Prepare, present and discuss data at lab meetings and journal clubs. * Assist in figure preparation for manuscripts and presentations * Maintain a scientific record of any experimental plans and processes performed * Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
