GENERAL SUMMARY:

Unit Description:

Henry Ford St John Hospital's 2 East Trauma Surgery Department is a 20-bed unit with a focus on the acute care of patients who have sustained a variety of traumatic injuries. The majority of our patients present with primarily orthopedic, vascular, or neurological injuries including fractures, wounds, and traumatic brain injuries, and may have secondary concerns including psychiatric and substance abuse diagnoses. Many of our trauma patients require surgical intervention, and are cared for by our team on the floor before they are taken to pre-op, and after they are recovered in the PACU. We also assist with medical surgical overflow as needed.

Our average nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, and we are supported by a team of Registered Nurses, and Patient Care Technicians. We also work very closely with the Trauma Systems team of providers, being that we are a Level 1 Trauma Center. We encourage voluntary participation in continuing education, and offer opportunities for Trauma Nurse Certification, as well as different hospital-based committees including Wound Care Champions and PNC. There is also a unit-based committee known as Shared Governance. We welcome nurses of all levels of education and experience that thrive in a fast-paced environment. 2 East is both a great place for the long-term, or a great stepping stone if ICU/ED/grad school is in your future. Come join our team!
