The Position

The Biomarker Operations Therapeutic Area Leader at Roche/Genentech is responsible for the operational leadership, delivery excellence and innovation for maximizing R&D opportunities with biosamples, investigational devices and companion diagnostic strategies using a compliance and ethics mindset in alignment to Roche's One Pharma Strategy. The role collaborates internally/ externally, to develop and leverage technology/ data analytics, and innovative practices to advocate and drive on best practices for collection, data generation, storage, reuse, and destruction biosamples.

The Opportunity:

  • Accountable for delivering on the Biomarker Operations strategy within your TA/DA through architecting and translating the overall biomarker operational strategy and business needs, in partnership with the appropriate Clinical Operations, Scientific and Data stakeholders.

  • Build, strengthen, and influence a cross-functional network of science, data and operations stakeholders (internal and external) through collaboration and informed decision-making across early and late-stage development, while providing strategic biomarker operational leadership.

  • Accountable for innovation in biosample operations by staying to date on industry developments, implementing new approaches, optimizing operational and data flow processes, and embracing new solutions to deliver transformative outcomes.

  • Represent the Biomarker TA/DA Asset as a contributing member to scientific and operational teams that influence and make decisions towards human biosamples in clinical trials and future research. Consistently demonstrate and role model collective leadership to serve the larger PDG and PD organization, ultimately in service of patients, investigative sites, and Roche. Represent Biomarker Operations as a contributing member to scientific review forums within early Research and Development organizations (eg Translational Medicine, BioX) and relevant governance/ forums to ensure understanding of end-to-end biomarker strategies (from biosample ideation, data flow through final specimen disposition).

  • Driving department-wide engagement by fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and high performance. Inspire, motivate, and develop talent within the team, ensuring a focus on individual growth and leadership development to build a strong, elevated talent pipeline aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Regular year-round assessment of performance, contributions, and impact and providing feedback, coaching and performance management.

  • Managing 8-10 direct reports, including other people leaders.

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor or Masters in Scientific, Medical or Healthcare field

  • You have 12+ years experience in the field of biomarkers required, in a clinical/ diagnostic development or pharmaceutical/biotechnology R&D.

  • You have prior People Management experience

  • You have a comprehensive understanding of global Pharma Clinical development in international settings

  • You have experience managing large, matrixed organizations, including leading direct reports and people leaders, recruiting and developing high-performing teams, and fostering collaboration and trust with stakeholders

  • You are fluent in English with additional language skills as an asset, and flexibility for frequent national or international travel based on business needs.

This position will be located in South San Francisco, Basel, Switzerland, or Welwyn, England sites Expectation of ongoing and sustained campus presence at the site in compliance with local requirements.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is: 215,000-399,200. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
