Position Highlights

The Department of Physiology is seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time Researcher/Scientist IV position. The successful candidate will be invited to join a collaborative research team under the direction of Dr. Liang, which is focused on cardiovascular and kidney disease. The individual is expected to conduct research with minimal supervision, develop and validate assessment tools, train/mentor direct support personnel, assist in grant proposal submissions, and prepare manuscripts for publications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Animal Research:

  • Serve as a senior collaborator for scheduling, developing, designing, coordinating, and performing complex animal research laboratory procedures, including surgeries and other important research initiatives and procedures with University Animal Care.

Cellular and Molecular Research:

  • Lead multifaceted cellular and molecular research procedures.
  • Ensure experiments comply with regulatory aspects of research programs, including safety and quality control, by coordinating with agencies and regulators.
  • Create and write IACUC animal protocols, IRB human research protocols, and other regulatory protocols. Develop and optimize research methods.

Laboratory Management:

  • Participates as a senior collaborator and contributor to the development and review of strategic and operational plans.
  • Maintain, repair, and oversee the handling of laboratory equipment and supplies in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee the day-to-day development and/or implementation of complex research standard operating procedures, ensuring laboratory personnel and students maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operations.
  • Responsible for training laboratory personnel and students in various techniques utilized in the lab.

Grant and Publication Assistance:

  • Actively participate in acquiring research funding, including initiating and writing grant proposals.
  • Lead publication and dissemination efforts of study findings.
  • Attend and participate in national scientific meetings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise using rat and mouse models of hypertension and cardiovascular and renal disease, including the Dahl salt-sensitive rat and its genetic derivatives modified through non-coding genomic engineering.
  • Proficiency in techniques for chronic and acute physiological studies related to hypertension and cardiovascular and renal disease in rodent models.
  • Proven ability to produce high-impact, peer-reviewed publications in areas related to hypertension, cardiovascular physiology, and renal disease research.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a related scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
