Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education and Office of Undergraduate Medical Education - Fort Collins Regional Campus has an opening for a part-time, 0.1 FTE position as a DOCS Coach.

All first-year students enrolled in CUSOM's Trek curriculum will participate in weekly small group clinical skills training during their preclerkship year as part of the Developing Our Clinical Skills (DOCS) course. This dynamic, experiential course will produce humanistic student physicians by developing their foundational clinical and professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes via an integrated curriculum. The curriculum will emphasize communication and interpersonal skills, cultural competency, physical examination, clinical reasoning, and professional development while promoting patient-centered care, teamwork, reflection, and coach-learner partnerships. Standardized patient interactions will also comprise significant portions of the course.

Clinical Skills Coaches will facilitate a small group of students and utilize a "coach approach" when delivering the course's curriculum. In addition to teaching students, Clinical Skills Coaches will observe students' clinical skills, deliver individualized feedback, evaluate student performance, and provide effective remediation.

Supervision Received: The position reports directly to the DOCS Lead for the Fort Collins Branch Campus and the Clinical Pillar Director, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Assistant Dean for the Fort Collins Branch Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching/Coaching:

* Become competent at the DOCS course-specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes to deliver the requisite curriculum.

* Effectively facilitate DOCS course small groups in the first year of medical school every week, or recruit faculty to facilitate appropriate sessions based on content expertise.

* Provide constructive, formative feedback for students.

* Collaborate with the teaching team to foster an effective learning environment.

Assessment:

* Directly observe students' clinical skills, deliver individualized feedback, evaluate student performance, and provide effective remediation as needed.

* Communicate effectively with faculty and staff/members regarding specific student concerns and/or needs.

Faculty Development:

* Prepare for small group sessions by reading the course syllabus as well as session-specific materials provided by the course directors.

* Faculty will be evaluated annually.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings at the Fort Collins Regional Branch Campus located in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

* Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as an MD or DO degree from an accredited University and be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the Instructor rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Sr. Instructor:

* Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as an MD or DO degree from an accredited University and be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the Sr. Instructor rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Assistant Professor:

* Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as an MD or DO degree from an accredited University and be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Associate Professor:

* Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as an MD or DO degree from an accredited University and be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Professor:

* Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as an MD or DO degree from an accredited University and be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Schedule that allows availability Thursday afternoons

* Demonstrated involvement in medical student education and/or experience with curriculum development at either the UME or GME level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* The individual must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and value working within a team.

* The individual in this position must be able to cultivate relationships with people who enjoy teaching, inspire students, and support the educational values of lifelong learning.

* Dedicated to improving student performance with formative feedback.

* Role model being observed and receiving feedback from observers.

* Commitment to faculty development and delivery of the DOCS course curriculum.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: Salary support up to $26,500 plus benefits or the equivalent of .1 FTE up to the educational salary cap of $265,000 for the Fort Collins Regional Campus Pre-negotiated agreement. The final offer will be capped at $265,000 annually and will depend on the individual's current 1.0 FTE salary.

Sr. Instructor: Salary support up to $26,500 plus benefits or the equivalent of .1 FTE up to the educational salary cap of $265,000 for the Fort Collins Regional Campus Pre-negotiated agreement. The final offer will be capped at $265,000 annually and will depend on the individual's current 1.0 FTE salary.
