Job Overview
The Sheet Metal Mechanic A receives and reviews blueprints, process plans, work folders, and verbal information to plan sheet metal fabrication sequence and determine machine setup, tools required, and required machine operations. This position is located in the Michoud Assembly Facility. Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Plans, lays out, sets up, and performs all types of work on routers, saws, shears, and drill presses within the capacity of such equipment.
- Sets up and operates various punch, stretch, and hydraulic presses, forming rolls and brakes to perform standard type operations using established procedures and proven tools, dies, blocks, etc.
- May adjust and operate portable spot-welding machine as required.
- Lays out flat patterns; finish forms parts.
- Checks details for proper contour, location of holes, cutouts, notches, and offsets.
- Uses detailed knowledge of particular events, day-to-day problems and opportunities and how things are actually done to implement ideas that advance safety, make the job easier, improve performance, or enhance the customer's experience.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Minimum of (4) years of experience.
- Must be able to work from all types of blueprints and sketches; use shop mathematics and handbook formulas, use precision calipers, protractors, surface gauge, and trammel.
- Must have knowledge of characteristics of the various types of metals and metal machines.
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
- Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications where such certifications are a requirement of the job.
- For jobs requiring operation of motor vehicles, must maintain a valid drivers license.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain the required NASA badge.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
Working Conditions:
- Requires working under typical shop conditions with some exposure to dirt, heat, and noise.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires considerable physical effort to work average and heavy weight metals with hand tools, when scrapping, hammering, assembling, fitting, lifting and positioning materials and when making overhead installations.
