The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD provides national expertise in the areas of vehicle engineering; guidance, navigation, and controls; robotics; electro-mechanical devices; embedded systems; fluid mechanics; propulsion; thermal control; mechanisms; structures; structural dynamics; and dynamic environments.

The Vehicle Systems Software Department (VSSD) provides engineering expertise and capabilities to all phases of the software development life cycle for aerospace vehicles. VSSD is seeking a Manager, Vehicle Software Architecture and Design (Manager - Multidisciplinary Guidance Navigation & Control). Our multidisciplinary staff provides technical oversight throughout the flight software development process, from design to implementation to testing and launch/mission support operations. In addition, we develop high-fidelity, closed-loop test beds to run the software and evaluate its ability to execute critical mission functions as expected. VSSD has provided mission assurance through software independent verification and validation for many national security space, as well as civil and commercial, programs.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing guidance and leadership to a technical staff responsible for supporting vehicle onboard software architecture and design.

  • Ensuring the appropriate mix of staff knowledge, skills, and experience through hiring and staff development.

  • Networking and building relationships with our NSS launch, spacecraft, and civil & commercial program offices and customers.

  • Helping to develop and execute department strategies with impactful benefit up the organizational hierarchy.

  • Fostering technological advancement and innovation through research and technical investment proposals.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field is required.

  • Three or more years of increasingly responsible engineering experience in one or more of the following technical areas: vehicle software design/development/testing, modeling and simulation of aerospace vehicles, space systems software verification and validation.

  • Ability to develop and lead engineering teams focused on contributing to organizational capabilities, strategies, and goals.

  • Ability to contribute to the formulation and execution of organizational strategies that place the department as a key contributor to enterprise-level objectives.

  • Strong skills in efficient and effective communication of relevant information, including verbal presentations and written reports.

  • Willing to travel to contractor or customer sites if required.

  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in aerospace vehicle/real-time flight software design, development, testing, and support.

  • Practical experience and knowledge in software requirements analysis.

  • Practical experience and knowledge in MBSE and SysML.

  • Practical experience and knowledge in agile software development methods.

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$134,200 - $201,300 Pay Basis: Annual
