Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is looking for an Aviation & Occupational Safety Specialist (Contract) to join our Safety Programs department based in Columbus, MS.

In this role, you'll provide support to the Safety Department in a wide range of activities including but not limited to Health and Safety and Aviation Safety incident investigation and management, corrective action tracking and management, safety promotions/training, and SMS implementation.

Your Working Environment:

On the eastern border of Mississippi you'll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It's here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Health & Safety Program Support 40%

  • Provides administrative support for the Health & Safety Manager.

  • Provide assistance and feedback to the Safety Department on tracking, auditing, and performance of the Health and Safety portion of the SMS.

  • Coordination of various Health and Safety programs, activities, events, and initiatives.

  • Assists with ad hoc analysis, hazard report assessments, injury report assessments, site assessments, and drills.

  • Assists in maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations primarily concerning OSHA.

  • Assists in the development of Health and Safety policy and procedures.

  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

2. Aviation Safety Program Support: 40%

  • Provides administrative support for the Aviation Safety Manager.

  • Provide assistance and feedback to the Safety Department on tracking, auditing, and performance of the Aviation Safety portion of the SMS.

  • Assists the Aviation Safety Manager and the SMS Manager in daily operations of the SMS, including assistance in air safety report assessment, investigation, and corrective action.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the safety assurance dashboards for the People Safety and Aviation Safety activities

3. Safety Promotions/Training: 10%

  • Provides support for the Safety Department, assists with day-to-day activities which includes training development, presenting and tracking of safety training, and supporting other safety promotion activities as directed.

Additional Responsibilities: 10%

  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required:

  • Must be currently located in the Columbus, MS area

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.

  • Minimum 6-months to one (1) year in Aviation/Aerospace Safety-related field.

  • 5% Domestic

  • Authorized to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization

  • Strong organization skills, thoroughness, and ability to work on multiple projects.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and be flexible.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office/Google applications.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Solid Understanding of Smartsheet and SharePoint, or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in safety sciences.

  • Relative experience in a related technical field e.g. manufacturing, quality, etc .

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (G-Suite) apps.

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 100% of time that this position must be worked onsite at the company's location.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, and reports.

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents up to 15lbs.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents and electronic equipment up to 15lbs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small boxes and some office equipment.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice 10%.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this opportunity.

This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
