Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Milieu Manager provides supervision and oversight to the MHTs during their scheduled shift. The Milieu Manager is responsible for ensuring that all MHTs are completing their job duties appropriately and following hospital policies and guidelines. The Milieu Manager will correct and educate staff where necessary. Additionally, they will be responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance with new policies and procedures as communicated to them by the Director of Patient Services or other hospital leadership. The Milieu Manager will demonstrate effective communication skills and work collaboratively with the Director of Patient Services, ADON, Nursing Supervisors, and HR. The Milieu Manager works closely with MHTs and other staff to resolve conflicts, promote a healthy work environment, and therapeutic milieu for patients. The Milieu Manager assists with crisis intervention and ensures unit programming is followed.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Promotes a culture of positivity and is supportive of unit staff.
  • Demonstrates consistency and effectiveness in boundary and limit setting of staff and patients.
  • Role models and promotes excellent milieu management - ensure staff are providing, consistent milieu presence, active rounding, engages with patients, structured activity time, following unit programming.
  • Ensures staff compliance with hygiene procedures, active rounding, milieu presence, environmental rounds, observation rounds, Spork collection at mealtimes on shift
  • Making sure unit preceptors are providing adequate training and communicating extra training needs of staff to the Director of Patient Services and RN Educator.
  • Ensures schedule/programming compliance on shift.
  • Ensures unit organization and cleanliness - belongings room, nurses' station, and chart-room.
  • Meet with the Director of Patient Services regularly to report on unit, receive assignments, and communicate process improvement ideas
  • Develops processes for increased communication between shifts.
  • Monitors unit movies for organization and appropriateness.
  • Checks email each shift.
  • Is an effective leader of MHT's and is comfortable delegating tasks and being assertive with staff.
  • Conduct audits to ensure monthly data is collected and input correctly.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. The Milieu Manager will work across all units and bring consistency to units, provide structure from shift to shift, ensure treatment schedule and documentation is adhered to, and always demonstrate service excellence.


Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma required. Associate or bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field preferred

Experience: Minimum of two years' experience working with a psychiatric patient population; inpatient experience preferred

Licensure/Certification: N/A

Knowledge: Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and CPR certified. Excellent communication skills, demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork abilities.

Supervision Received: Director of Patient Services

Supervision Exercised: Mental Health Technicians

Loss Control Safety Standards:

I will adhere to all safety policies and safe work practices. I will attend facility safety trainings. I will adhere to all facility policies and procedures and report all accidents immediately to my supervisor and the Human Resources Director.
