We Require
Five years of experience as an inspector, or five years of experience in an engineering or construction field, including surveying, drainage inspecting, hydrology, plan reviewing/examination, and interpretation High school diploma or GED A combination of related post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Must possess or have the ability to obtain within six months of hire: American Concrete Institute - Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I, American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) - Traffic Control Supervisor, and ATTI Field Certification, NICET (Asphalt/Concrete/Soils), or approved equivalent

Act as a lead inspector on complex projects, including multi-jurisdictional and Departmental projects Provide training to new and existing inspection staff Read, interpret, and apply construction plans and specifications; MAG specifications and standards; MCDOT specifications and standards, and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, and regulations Inspect construction for new and reconstructed roadways, bridges, drainage structures, utilities, guardrails, sidewalks, curb and gutter, signing, striping, traffic control, and all other roadway features Use computer software programs to prepare and maintain detailed project reports, documents, files, inspections, and contractor pay estimates, including documenting and verifying the quality, quantity of materials, and workmanship for completed work Prepare progress estimates for payment, general correspondence, emails, memorandums, handouts, letters, and enter/retrieve project data Review contractor's schedules for feasibility and submittal requirements Coordinate and lead pre-construction meetings Communicate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders. Investigate, answer, and assist with the resolution of public relations questions and complaints from the public, contractors, and other agencies Sample and test construction materials for conformance to contract documents
Working Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
