About the Position

The Executive Assistant to Executive Officer provides highly responsible and sensitive administrative support to the executive command staff of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Assignments require independent judgment and involve high-level interactions with executive management.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Five (5) years of administrative experience with two (2) or more years supporting management-level positions.

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Other combinations of post-secondary education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.

Other requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with a paramilitary style chain of command.
  • Experience supporting executive-level command.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Leads special projects.
  • Conducts research, and compiles information for reports.
  • Manages Executive Officer's schedule, makes appointments, and assembles necessary background material.
  • Prioritizes matters requiring the Executive Officer's attention.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with MCSO command staff, County government officials, private agencies, and the general public.
  • Relays instructions and information to department managers and ensures follow-up.
  • Reviews incoming correspondence to determine significance and distribution, handles responses using critical thinking and independent judgment.
  • Coordinates meetings, events, and travel arrangements.
  • Maintains confidential records.
  • Answers inquiries regarding interpretation of policies and procedures and responds to sensitive requests for information that may be confidential.
  • Attends meetings and community events.
  • Directs the workflow and/or supervises support staff as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs.

All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
