The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer - Department of Defense. The Senior Electrical Engineer represents the company with engineered products and solutions for facility control system projects. The role leads design and technical oversight for systems that include UMCS, HVAC controls and DDC, SCADA, Fire Alarm Systems, Electronic Security Systems, metering, and related life safety and force protection technologies. Responsibilities include developing calculations, drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation; coordinating power and controls interfaces; reviewing submittals and RFIs; supporting factory and site testing, integrated system testing, and commissioning; and sealing deliverables as a Professional Engineer where required. This role supports a Department of Defense mission and partners with project managers, field teams, and authorities having jurisdiction to deliver code-compliant, reliable systems.

Required Experience & Skills



  • 10 years of experience in Electrical and/or Mechanical engineering, including at least five (5) years in the functional area aligned to this work.
  • Active U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical or Mechanical engineering (required).
  • Demonstrated experience producing engineered designs and specifications for UMCS, HVAC controls and DDC, SCADA, FAS, ESS, and metering.
  • Proficiency developing design documentation: load and capacity calculations, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, wiring and control diagrams, hydronic and airside schematics, sequences of operation, point lists, and equipment schedules.
  • Experience planning and witnessing factory tests, site tests, integrated system tests, and final acceptance; coordinating deficiency resolution and as-built updates.
  • Working knowledge of applicable criteria and codes, including UFGS, UFC, NFPA 70 and 72, NFPA 101, ASHRAE 55/62.1/90.1, IMC, IBC, and relevant industry standards.
  • Familiarity with ICS cybersecurity touchpoints that influence design (for example: network segmentation, PPS allowlisting, secure configurations) in coordination with cybersecurity teams.
  • Construction administration experience, including submittal reviews, change support, field surveys, and punch list closeout.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination with stakeholders and preparation of technical deliverables.
  • Ability to travel to active project sites, including secure facilities.


Preferred Experience & Skills



  • Prior experience on federal task order contracts for facility modernization or control systems programs.
  • For Electrical: short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies and NFPA 70E compliance; grounding and bonding; standby power and UPS integration; lighting and controls.
  • For Mechanical: HVAC load analysis, equipment selection, chiller and boiler plants, hydronic and airside design, and controls integration with sequences of operation.
  • Commissioning credentials (CxA or similar) or energy-related credentials (CEM, CBCP).
  • Proficiency with design and analysis tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM or ETAP, TRACE or HAP.
  • Experience integrating legacy systems with new DDC and enterprise monitoring platforms.


Required Education



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical) from an accredited university or college.


Preferred Education



  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related discipline, or an NCEES record to support multi-state licensure.

Clearance



  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.



Travel



  • Minimum 25% to job sites CONUS and OCONUS as required by task orders.
