Museum Educator - Cranbrook Institute of Science Founded by Detroit philanthropists George and Ellen Booth in 1904, Cranbrook Educational Community is one of the world's leading centers of education, science, and art. Comprised of a graduate Academy of Art, contemporary Art Museum, Center for Collections and Research, House and Gardens, Institute of Science, and more than 1,600 students attending our Pre-K through 12 independent college preparatory Schools, Cranbrook welcomes thousands of visitors and students to its campus each year. Critics have called Cranbrook "the most enchanted and enchanting setting in America" and in 1989 it was designated a National Historic Landmark. Museum Educators are responsible for the development and/or delivery of new and existing programming at the Institute of Science focused largely on experiences for outreach to Flint, Pontiac, Detroit, and other Michigan classrooms. Museum Educators are expected to demonstrate excellent presentation, interpersonal, classroom management, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with a broad range of science topics is required. Museum Educators play an integral role in creating exceptional experiences and are expected to demonstrate excellent customer service and audience engagement. Schedules vary based on the program calendar and may include weekend days during the school year, holiday and/or evening assignment, and hours could begin as early as 5:00 am or run as late as 11:00 pm.
