We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As a Sr. Red Hat Engineer, you will be primarily responsible in assisting and helping train engineers/administrators in Fort Worth, Texas. Specifics include:

  • Help in Level 1-3 support duties and train lower-level engineers/administrators including creating Knowledge Articles and Platform technical documentation.

  • Provide technical expertise for planning and defining upgrade requirements: perform feasibility and performance studies including benchmark, capacity planning, and sizing of Server architecture.

  • Assist/Lead in the implementation and design of new upgrades to Unix Infrastructure and servers.

  • Deliver IT services, systems, and applications to the business.

  • Ensure adherence to quality standards as defined by the IT Organization

  • Ensure appropriate response to audit / ISRM assessment findings and recommendations.

  • Define an end-to-end provisioning process of facilitating automation wherever possible.

  • Perform patch management and image management activities.

  • Participate in meetings with UNIX service customers to define new system requirements and provide recommendations based on experience, company policies, and best practices.

  • Ensure standard build/image.

  • Ensure accurate provisioning and metering of services.

  • Provide early feedback to the development team on release issues.

  • Ensure that an up-to-date asset inventory for all technology assets is maintained, and only authorized components are used.

  • Accountable to ensure adherence with Security and Compliance policies and procedures within Technical Operations service scope.

  • Coordinate all configuration management database changes which directly or indirectly impact production services.

  • Ensure addition, modification, or removal of any IT asset in a standard and controlled manner.

  • Ensure that CIs are identified, accounted, reported, verified, and audited.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of firsthand experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Proficiency in installing and administering RHEL Satellite (Server registration, Operating system patching, CVE vulnerability searches, Server updates, Kickstart functionality) Strong background in installing and configuring RHEL systems

  • Ability to perform daily administrative tasks in a RHEL environment (including use of yum tool)

  • Solid understanding of Linux operating system concepts

  • Scripting and automation proficiency with Perl, KornShell (ksh), and Bash

  • Experience managing physical servers (IBM Power, Dell, HP, Lenovo)

  • Familiarity with SAP systems

  • Proven ability to design and configure High Availability (HA) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments

  • Strong capability to conceptualize and visualize algorithmic structures.

  • Experience with Centrify for UNIX authentication

  • Proficiency in VMware

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC).
