Henderson Companies is seeking a Financial Planning Manager to join their team.


The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for overseeing the preparation, accuracy and timeliness of the company's general ledger, financial statements, internal financial reporting and quarterly reporting for the board of directors. This role ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. The manager will lead the financial reporting process, manage external audits, and provide critical financial insights to senior leadership. The manager will also oversee the company's tax filing and compliance. This role requires strong analytical, technical accounting, leadership, and communication skills. This position maintains a comprehensive understanding of tax laws and auditing standards and fosters a collaborative work environment. They are critical in ensuring financial transparency and regulatory adherence. This role also holds people leadership responsibilities for lower-level Finance & Accounting professionals.


Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:


Tax Planning & Compliance



  • Oversee tax handling procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Review the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns, including income tax, sales, and other applicable taxes.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and provide guidance on potential impacts to the organization.


Audit Management



  • Prepare the financial statements and footnotes for the annual GAAP audit.
  • Manage audit processes, including coordination of supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Analyze financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and policies.
  • Address audit findings, implement corrective actions and recommend process improvements.


Financial Reporting



  • Review and oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Partner with Finance and operational teams to provide insights and support business decision-making.
  • Review and oversee the preparation of the quarterly reporting package for the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain compliance with internal accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger


Accounting Operations



  • Manage and streamline reporting processes, including the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Research complex accounting issues, prepare technical memos, and recommend policy changes to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual tasks and enhance accuracy.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as required.


Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Experience within the A/E/C industry required.
  • 6+ years of public accounting experience required. A total of 6 years of total public accounting and corporate experience required, with at least 3 in public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of auditing standards and practices, GAAP, and IFRS.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Del-Tek, SAP, Oracle,).
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
