The James Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center is committed to the support of patients with advanced breast cancer. One key component is the Living Well with Advanced Breast Cancer Clinic that enables patients recently diagnosed with stage 4/metastatic disease to understand the implications and resources available to them. This includes education from a medical oncologist and same-day appointments with a palliative medicine physician, integrated medicine physician, physical therapist, and dietitian. The Patient and Family Relations Specialist for the Living Well with Advanced Breast Cancer Clinic is responsible for assisting in guidance and coordination of patient care. This position will work under the leadership of physician director for the Clinic and with the multi-disciplinary team that comprises the Clinic. In this work, the Patient and Family Relations Specialist assists with tracking activities and data related to the Clinic and promoting appropriate referrals to the clinic. Position Summary The Patient and Family Relations Specialist will organize and coordinate operations for the Living Well with Advanced Breast Cancer (LWABC) clinic including helping to set and manage expectations of patients referred to the clinic, preparing and managing materials, facilitating patient flow during the clinic, and conducting post-visit outreach to patients. Telephone calls and OSU MyChart communications to patients are customary channels of communication. The Patient and Family Relations Specialist will monitor patients due for follow-up and assist with scheduling supportive care visits and follow-up with primary oncology team including external referrals. The Patient and Family Relations Specialist will help promote appropriate referrals to the clinic and help support patient scheduling alongside James Patient Access Services (JPAS) staff. Another important role is collecting and tabulating information related to the clinic, typically administered before and after the LWABC clinics. The Patient and Family Relations Specialist will liaise with Integrated Medicine leaders and the Roots and Wings Foundation to collaborate and make use of philanthropic gifts. The Patient and Family Relations Specialist will attend key meetings, such as the Breast Medical Oncology Workgroup and planning meetings for the annual Ask the Expert: Living Well with Advanced Breast Cancer patient conference. Supports grant applications and reporting activities. For Hire: Bachelors degree in science or healthcare related field or one year of relevant experience in healthcare environment; oncology, social work, or community health healthcare experience preferred. Basic PC and keyboard skills required; previous experience with MS office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Communicate effectively in English (verbal/written).
