HDR is seeking a Transit Practice Lead for the North Texas, El Paso, Oklahoma, Arkansas Area, who will be responsible for managing and expanding our transportation consulting business with transit agency clients. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the overall growth of an established and growing transit consulting practice that is an important part of HDR's global transportation business.

The primary responsibility of the Area Transit Practice Lead is to maintain and grow HDR's transit consulting business with transit clients in North Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas for all modes of public transit - LRT, commuter rail, streetcar, BRT,enhanced bus, and conventional buses - and also involving transit stations, terminals, and maintenance and storage facilities. Service areas will include transit planning, funding support, corridor and feasibility studies, preliminary design, environmental, detailed design/PS&E, and construction services. Related responsibilities include client relationship building, developing and implementing marketing strategies, raising the profile of HDR, identifying and pursuing opportunities, and overall financial performance of the market sector.

Additional duties include:

  • Global Transit Market Sector Program - This position will assist the Global Transit Market Sector Director in setting and executing the vision to expand services and win contracts within the market for the area, region, and beyond as needed.

  • The position will provide operational leadership to other transit professionals and support the professional development of its staff to ensure alignment with market needs.

  • The Transit Practice Lead will report to the Area Transportation Business Group Manager. In addition, the Leader will work closely with HDR's transportation business development and technical (business class and section) leaders in a collaborative team environment.

  • The Transit Practice Lead will also function as a Project Manager (PM), leading transit and other transportation-related projects. The PM has responsibility for successful project delivery as it relates to schedule and budget and for representing client's interests in a competent and professional manner to public officials, citizen groups, and other necessary stakeholders. In this capacity, you will lead and support multi-disciplinary transit projects that may include light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, bus, bus rapid transit, or transit support facilities and will:

  • Be responsible for tasks assigned from concept, through to execution and delivery

  • Prepare and direct the work of others to complete planning studies, reports, conceptual engineering, and final design documents.

  • Initiate and conduct agency coordination, planning and programming, and working with multi-discipline teams.

  • Initiate client development and advance marketing to achieve goals.

  • Support and lead project pursuits and prepare proposals, scopes, and fees.

  • Coordinate project staffing and workload management on transit projects utilizing the HDR matrix of disciplines.

  • Manage QC/QA procedures and be responsible for the overall quality of project deliverables.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in planning, engineering, or closely related field.

  • 10 years or more of experience in all aspects of transit planning and engineering.

  • Experience with transit agencies in North Texas, Oklahoma, and/or Arkansas.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
