Environmental Engineer - Americas

Huntsman is seeking an Environmental Engineer - Americas supporting the Corporate Division located in The Woodlands, TX. This position will report to Corporate EHS.

Job Scope

The Environmental Engineer - Americas is responsible for developing and implementing environmental systems and programs that ensure consistency across Huntsman's manufacturing sites in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central/South America. This role provides environmental consultancy support to regional manufacturing sites to drive compliance, continuous performance improvement, and cost reduction through shared environmental services.

In summary, as the Environmental Engineer - Americas, you will:
  • Execute environmental objectives as defined by the Corporate EHS team and divisional support plans.

  • Develop and assist in the implementation of standardized environmental processes, programs, and guidelines throughout the Americas region.

  • Monitor and assess environmental legislative and regulatory activities, communicating potential operational impacts to the business.

  • Provide environmental consulting support to manufacturing sites, including program development, rule applicability determinations, and preparation of permits and regulatory reports.

  • Research regulatory issues and provide compliance interpretations to sites and business leaders.

  • Participate in corporate EHS compliance and management system audits.

  • Maintain a corporate database of agency interpretations, legal opinions, FAQs, and environmental guidance.

  • Travel up to 20% of the time to regional sites as required.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Science, or a related field.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance within the chemical industry, with a focus on air regulations and programs.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent working knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and agency practices.

  • Proficient understanding of chemical manufacturing operations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and deliver results on time.

  • Detail-oriented with effective communication skills across all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and provide expert guidance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Internet research, and email communication tools.

  • Knowledge of environmental programs and regulatory frameworks across multiple U.S. states (e.g., TX, AL, CA, IL, FL, LA, MI, NH, OH, SC).

  • Flexibility and adaptability to dynamic business needs and organizational priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Experience supporting multi-country environmental compliance programs (Canada, Mexico, Central/South America).

  • Familiarity with corporate EHS management systems and audit processes.

  • Professional certifications in environmental management or regulatory compliance (e.g., CHMM, QEP, PE).

Working Environment
  • Standard office environment in The Woodlands, TX with frequent computer use.

  • Occasional travel (up to 20%) to manufacturing sites within the Americas region.

  • Periodic exposure to chemical manufacturing environments, including loud noise or chemical handling areas, while following Huntsman's safety protocols.

  • Work performed primarily during day shifts.
