The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Summary:

The Lead Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy duties and acts as the area lead under the direction of a laboratory supervisor or manager,

The Lead is responsible for the monitoring and coordinating the workflow within the phlebotomy section for both inpatient and outpatient collection and processing and redirects personnel resources to ensure the efficient care of patients,

The incumbent will be responsible for orienting and training staff and maintaining quality performance practices,

The Lead assists internal and external customers with information, reports, and services as needed,

Qualifications:

Required:

High School diploma or equivalent

Phlebotomy and/or Medical assistant certification

Minimum of 5 year experience in adult and pediatric phlebotomy

Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for a minimum of 60 minutes

Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs,

Preferred:

Laboratory experience

Scheduling Requirements:

Full time

Night Shift 11p - 730a

Weekend and Holiday Rotations

Responsibilities:

Assists in overall daily operations of the section, which includes scheduling, collecting, receiving, processing specimens, and stocking/managing supplies

Organizes and assigns staffing accordingly for collection of inpatient and outpatient volumes

Monitors turnaround time collection process and recommends enhancements

Reports appropriate feedback to Manager/Supervisors, and relays instructions to phlebotomists as required to enhance the quality of specimens

Receives and resolves problems and complaints associated with inpatient/outpatient blood draws and reports to Manager/Supervisor,

Reviews and investigates non-conformities with service goals

Provides administrative support to Supervisor,

Collaborate effectively and professionally with all departments and team members, fostering positive communication, cooperation, and quality service delivery,

Trains and mentors new staff or students as needed, promoting professionalism, lab excellence, continuous learning, and adherence to best practices,

Listens to patient`s queries, comments and/or concerns and provides appropriate information and responses

Introduces self when interacting with patients, families, visitors, or other employees,

Entry of patient demographics, test orders, billing information into Epic computer systems

Follows established SOP and age-specific techniques for the collection and processing of blood for analysis and evaluates and solves problems related to that process

Correctly identifies outpatients and inpatients according to approved protocols

Performs accurate venipuncture and micro capillary techniques in sample collection

Properly labels specimens with according to established procedure

Draws all timed/scheduled samples at the proper interval

Operates the pneumatic tube system properly and observes all Infection Control policies while handling specimens

Maintains a safe and orderly work area

Demonstrates safe work practices

Answers phone in a professional, courteous, and timely manner, speaking to caller in a caring manner as per Department protocol

Research phone inquiries regarding specimen collection or test results by referencing available manuals and records, and calls caller back promptly

Projects an image of professionalism in appearance and conduct at all times

Complies with Hospital, Laboratory, Safety, and HIPAA regulations

Notifies Supervisor of hazards when found

Completes annual mandatories on or before the due date

Follows direction of Lab Leadership for all tasks assigned

Perform all other related duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and patient care,
