Title:
Post Doctoral Research Associate

Department:
Physics

Reports To:
Professor

Position Type:
Staff

Position Summary:
The candidate
will be working on the self-assembly of amphipathic peptides into
supramolecular structures in bulk solvent and at water-lipid interfaces. The successful applicant will carry out the
computational part of the project while experiments will be performed by our
collaborator at the University of Rochester. The chosen candidate will have access to
state-of-the-art supercomputers and will be given ample opportunity to grow
as a researcher, e.g, by supervising students, collaborating with
experimentalists, attending conferences, and learning new skills (including
python and Artificial Intelligence).

Essential Functions:
-Investigate the self-assembly process by which amphipathic peptides form supramolecular structures in solution and at water-lipid interfaces.
-Carry out the computational part of the project while experiments will be performed by our collaborator (Prof. Bradley Nilsson) at the University of Rochester.
-Use state-of-the-art simulations, theory, and Machine Learning in their investigation; make high-quality figures; write papers; and assist in the submission of proposals.
-Assist in the organization of meetings with collaborators, and attend conferences.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-A good understanding of computer simulations (e.g., molecular dynamics, all-atom simulations, coarse-grained models, and enhanced sampling methods) proven through the publication of scientific articles.
-Knowledge of protein aggregation, and protein-membrane interactions is also desired.
-Clear oral communication with proven experience in writing scientific papers.
-Basic knowledge of the Linux operational system including script writing.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-While knowledge of specific software packages is
not required, our group uses mainly GROMACS to perform simulations, VMD to visualize atomic
structures, and Xmgrace/python to plot scientific data.
-The candidate is expected to learn how to use
GROMACS as they join our group.

Bargaining Unit:
AFT-UCAN
