Role description

Job Title: Lead I - Technical Writer

Location: Mumbai / Pune
Experience: 5+ Years


Role Overview:

The Technical Writer - Lead I, will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving high-quality documentation that supports product development and delivery. This includes process, operational, and release documents for both local and cloud-based environments. The role involves close collaboration with product managers, developers, and QA teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all technical content.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Plan, develop, and write operational, process, and release documentation for internal and external audiences.



  • Conduct interviews with technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather data and insights for documentation.



  • Use standardized templates to create process, procedure, and reference documents.



  • Produce documentation that adheres to company standards, including style, formatting, and QA guidelines.



  • Provide documentation support to designated tribes or product segments.



  • Create multi-format deliverables (e.g., online help, PDFs, wiki content) for both internal and customer-facing use.



  • Participate in agile ceremonies and QA reviews to support the product lifecycle and release management process.




Skills and Competencies:
Technical Writing:


  • Identify and address specific audience personas to tailor content appropriately.



  • Use advanced authoring tools to develop user documentation and release notes.



  • Apply organization and navigation techniques to ensure usability and findability of content.



  • Adhere to all documentation governance, compliance, and security policies.




Execution:


  • Collaborate with SMEs to draft complete and accurate release artifacts.



  • Follow structured documentation workflows for drafting, review, and final publication.



  • Execute writing and publishing tasks with minimal supervision.




Content and Publication Review:


  • Draft and submit content for editorial and technical review.



  • Incorporate feedback through iterative review cycles.



  • Utilize advanced toolsets to prepare documentation for local or cloud-based publication.




Presentation and Publication:


  • Draft, edit, and publish artifacts across multiple formats and platforms.



  • Use local and cloud-based authoring and publication systems (e.g., Confluence, MadCap Flare, Markdown).




Mandatory Skills and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Technical Writing, or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience).



  • Minimum 2 years of experience in writing, editing, and planning software documentation.



  • Exceptional written communication and grammar skills.



  • Strong understanding of technical documentation usability principles.



  • Ability to conform to proprietary writing style guides and maintain consistency across deliverables.



  • Experience with documentation tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Markdown, or similar platforms.



  • Cloud Certification is strongly preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.



  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.



  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and software development processes.
