MACHINE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (CRITICAL LIFT & TRANSPORT)

SpaceX is seeking a skilled Machine Maintenance Technician to join our Critical Lift and Transport team at our launch sites. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of specialized machinery and equipment used in the safe and efficient handling, lifting, and transportation of flight hardware and critical ground hardware. You will work cooperatively with a team of technicians, specialists, and engineers to minimize downtime and support SpaceX's ambitious goals in space exploration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Perform repair and preventative maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for a variety of transport and lift equipment (trucks, trailers, SPMTs, cranes, shipping fixtures, ground support equipment)
  • Diagnose and repair operational issues in the field
  • Read and interpret technical schematics and documentation (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic)
  • Use various mechanical hand and machine tools without instruction
  • Fabricate and/or source spare parts, tools, and materials for repairs and machine upgrades while adhering to cost-control measures
  • Work cooperatively and jointly with a team of technicians, engineers, and management to complete equipment maintenance in support of reliable and safe transport and lift operations
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in detail using a digital tracking system (e.g. Computerized Maintenance Management System, CMMS software) to maintain compliance and support root cause analysis
  • Make a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide feedback to streamline work processes
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, fluids, and/or control systems


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • 5+ years of experience as a maintenance or field service technician, with a focus on heavy lift and transport equipment
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex fluid, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of diesel mechanics as well as forms of internal combustion engines
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Ability to use calibrated measurement devices including load cells, multimeters, calipers, torque wrenches, depth gauges, and micrometers
  • Ability to use power tools and hand tools as well as heavy equipment (forklift, telescopic, overhead crane)
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company policies, quality policies, and industry standards
  • Basic computer and report writing skills (MS Office)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong prioritization skills and time management skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Analytic thinker that gets to the root of the problem and comes up with permanent solution to remedy the issue
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a high-paced and dynamic environment


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg Space Force Base
  • Ability to work the following shift, overtime, and weekends as needed:


    • Monday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm


  • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying may be required to perform the functions of this position
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain, ice
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Ability to support critical hardware transport as needed
  • Willing to work extended hours as needed to support critical operations, including overtime and weekends


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Machine Maintenance Technician/Level 1: $25.25 - $34.00/hour
Machine Maintenance Technician/Level 2: $30.75 - $40.75/hour
Machine Maintenance Technician/Level 3: $36.25 - $47.25/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
