Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor - Manhattan, Cancer Center.

Responsible for assisting patients and their families in understanding genetic illnesses. Serves as educator and resource person for other health care professionals and the general public.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides genetic counseling for patients and their families who have or are at risk of having genetic disorders.Effectively counsels patients and their families. Interviews patients and their families to assess medical condition and provide individual and group counseling services. Effectively provides individual and group counseling to patients and their families. Utilizing proper interview techniques, effectively interviews patients and their families.Properly assesses medical conditions as necessary.
  • Directs patients and their families to appropriate community agencies for long-term care or long-term follow-up counseling. Effectively directs patients and their families to community agencies when appropriate. Seeks out community-based resources in order to better serve our patients.
  • Develops educational program and protocols for medical students and residents, genetics fellows and genetics counseling students. Takes an active role in educating all of the interdisciplinary team members regarding the role of genetics in providing services to our patients.
  • Provides genetics support to research studies as necessary. Effectively participates in educational activities and brings back knowledge learned to share with the Supportive Services department.
  • Participate in educational activities of the Genetics and Metabolic Programs, including training or medical students,resident, fellows, and genetic counselors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's Degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program. Board certification or eligibility for board certification as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)..

Preferred Licenses: Certified Genetic Counselor

Preferred Qualifications:
Cancer genetic counseling experience is preferred, but not required. Experience working with multicultural audiences preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $95,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
