Inova's Central Lab is looking for a dedicated Lab Technician Assistant PSC Team Lead to join the team at 3580 Joseph Siewick Dr Suite 103B, Fairfax VA 22033! This role will be a Full-time Day Shift, Monday through Friday, Hours: 630am-5pm.

Lab Tech Assistant PSC Team Lead Job Responsibilities:

* Performs proper specimen collection, by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens/blood products to ensure accurate patient results; Follows standard protocol for patient ID and specimen/blood product labeling including final verification.

* Demonstrates organization skills by prioritizing collection requests/blood product inventory needs; Selects appropriate equipment prior to collection: i.e. tubes, supplies. Verifies orders per department policy; Demonstrates proper technique to provide excellent standard of care; Demonstrates knowledge performing special procedures per facility department and based on competency assessment specific to those procedures.

* Maintains current knowledge of methods for blood, urine, stool, and culture collections and explains specimen collection protocols to patients, nurses and physicians as required; Provides quality customer and technical support and maintains positive relationships through timely, courteous, accurate and efficiently handling of inquiries.

* Participates in annual skills review, written evaluation of personal knowledge and direct observation of technique and process prior to evaluation deadline.

* Explains and keeps customers informed of all processes and procedures; Helps customers to have clear expectation of what is occurring and duration of procedure and when there will be a wait time; Assesses data and provides age specific care to patients; Performs registration and reviews billing information accurately and efficiently, in order to, ensure regulatory compliance.

* Manages specimen processing accurately and efficiently to provide quality specimens for laboratory testing; Evaluates specimens for acceptability per policy (volume, labeling, proper documentation); Receives specimens accurately in the LIS. Performs Clinical Order entry correctly; Accurately labels smears, media plates, centrifuge tubes and other secondary containers using two patient identifiers.

* Prioritizes specimens after collection or as they arrive in the lab or on pending lists; Distributes and/or prepares specimens according to special requirement and prioritizing delivery to departments or outsourced labs; Handles specimens collected by special procedure properly per facility policy (Irretrievable specimens, pathology specimens, 24 hour urine, cultures, chain of custody collections, Newborn Screens etc); Documents per facility process when a specimen does not meet acceptability criteria.

* May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Certification: Phlebotomy Technician completion certificate from a Phlebotomy program or another Allied Health training program. Basic Life Support (AHA) upon start.

Experience: 3 years of experience in a Patient Service Center environment.
