About the Job

We are interested in building our roster of community faculty with experience in long term care who are passionate about educating future leaders in the newly launched Master of Professional Studies in Long Term Care Leadership, a professional program designed for learners who want to lead in a long-term care setting, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home health agencies, and through community-based services for older adults. In particular, the program seeks community faculty to teach coursework in topics that include Continuum of Long Term Services and Supports, Built Environment, Evaluation and Quality, Financing, Leadership, Marketing and Public Relations, Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Research and Data Analysis and Equity. Teaching Specialists report to the Director for Graduate Programs in CCAPS, and typically teach one to two semester-length courses during the academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or teach the assigned course, fulfilling University policies and using course-appropriate effective practices: setting high expectations; supporting achievement with clear instructions, examples and samples; establishing frequent, regular contact with students; grading and returning coursework promptly with relevant formative and/or summative feedback; engaging students in relevant collaborative work; and submitting final grades on-time
  • Must be able to teach at scheduled class times, including evening and weekends and respond to course related student inquiries within 48 hours
  • Work with the Director of Graduate Studies and program staff as needed to resolve course- or student-related situations that require support or resources outside the classroom
  • Work with the Director of Graduate Studies for the LTC program and with other resident/adjunct faculty to ensure successful integration of required coursework and state licensing requirements.
  • Use sector and content expertise and keep current with research findings, workforce trends, professional ethics and policies related to long term care to inform depth and breadth of course content.
  • Utilize new technologies to enhance curriculum delivery and accessibility to accommodate working adult students.
  • Utilize pedagogical best practices for diverse working adult learners.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

The search committee will review applications as program needs arise throughout the year. Candidates will only be contacted for an interview if there is a course available.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Master's degree (including but not limited to Healthcare Administration, Gerontology, Marketing, Nursing, Evaluation, Architecture, or Accounting) from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a field directly related to the course of instruction or 3 semesters of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and serving a diverse community of learners in a professional setting.

PREFERRED:

  • A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a field closely related to the course of instruction
  • Ten or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to the course of instruction or 5 semesters of teaching experience
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

Instructors are paid $2,280 per credit for full enrollment courses. For example, a three credit course at full enrollment would be paid at $6,840.
