A Brief Overview
Provides around the clock leadership and effective, direct day-to-day supervision of staff. Responsible for assuring delivery of safe, efficient, cost effective, age specific care to patients at risk of harm to self or others. Responsible for and deploys department strategies designed to meet defined department and CHOP clinical, financial, and quality initiatives and associated performance and outcome targets.

What you will do

  • Drives effective resource utilization, ensuring cost-efficient daily operations and alignment with departmental budgets.Partners with leadership to develop, implement, and monitor quality-improvement initiatives that measurably enhance care outcomes.
  • Ensures regulatory, safety, financial, and clinical compliance across the unit through consistent monitoring and staff accountability.
  • Implements systems that integrate evidence-based practice and professional standards into daily clinical workflows.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care planning and improve patient/family experience.
  • Identifies performance gaps and develops actionable strategies to improve patient outcomes and strengthen unit processes.
  • Coaches and supports nursing staff in managing patients with behavioral health needs, fostering clinical confidence and skill.
  • Oversees staff performance management-including coaching, counseling, and annual evaluations-to promote growth and competency.
  • Enhances team engagement through recognition initiatives, shared governance participation, and succession planning support.
  • Supports ongoing innovation, education, and evidence-based practice by resourcing learning opportunities and measuring impact through defined metrics.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, or education Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years experience in psychiatric inpatient or day programs, or psychiatric residential placement programs, or in Therapeutic Support Services Required
  • Background in aggression management Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
  • Licensed Behavior Specialist - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Preferred
  • Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute - upon hire - Preferred
  • Registered Behavior Technician - Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) - upon hire - Preferred
