POSITION SUMMARY: The Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) Criminal Justice Diversion clinician will work collaboratively with the Winthrop Police Department and the Winthrop Health Department to respond to selected law enforcement calls for service as a crisis response specialist. In their role, the clinician will provide crisis intervention, psychological first aid, mediation and linkages to appropriate and available community services, with a primary focus on youth and adolescents, and their families. Additionally, they will collaborate with the larger Winthrop community, including Winthrop Public Schools, to identify families or individuals with behavioral health or substance misuse challenges. Community partners include but are not limited to the Winthrop School Department, Winthrop Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and the courts. For identified persons, the clinician may perform outreach in an attempt to divert them from the criminal justice system and towards appropriate care and services. Successful applicants will have extensive knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders, conflict resolution and crisis intervention. Through the role, the clinician will gain a basic knowledge of the criminal justice system through on the job learning, but the ideal candidate must have the ability to: understand law enforcement culture, procedures and general orders and establish and maintain rapport with both police officers and an increasingly diverse community. Compensation Range: $29.57- $43.03This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
