The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

Starting pay: $16.50

Job Objective:

As the Graphic Designer you will participate in overall development projects such as fundraising, events, and donor materials along with special activities as assigned. You will also assist in the creation of internal and external promotional, advertising and operational materials ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Prepare copy and layout for flyers, brochures, newsletters, advertising and other media that is effective, culturally appropriate and tasteful.
  • Work closely with key staff to create promotional and operational materials for all departments. Appropriate materials should have the same look and feel and be in keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army. The Kroc Executive Committee will have final approval of materials prior to publication and consumption.
  • Produce signs, forms, cards and related materials for all the departments at the Kroc Community Center.
  • Design print advertising.
  • Support other forms of social media including Facebook, Twitter, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Be a design resource and support for all areas of Kroc ministry
  • Provide support for volunteers' marketing needs.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalency. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in graphic design, Art Communication, or related field.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Minimum of two years' experience working in the fields of advertising, journalism, and/or publishing, developing and designing target marketing and communication collateral, and multi-media education and support.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm within the first 30 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Must understand current design, typography and photography tends.


  • Must be highly creative and thrive in a team setting.


  • Proficient with current Microsoft software computer including Words, Excel, Assess, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite Windows Platform, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, e-mail, internet, and standard office equipment and systems plus specialized design software such as flash, Photoshop, and Joomla content management system. Adobe Premier (or similar video editing software), and PHP.


  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task.


  • The ability to maintain a self-motivated and self- directed schedule. Able to address multiple projects in a timely manner. Responsive, detail oriented, ability to take projects from beginning through completion.

Travel: As needed

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. May require some weekend and evening work.
