The UHS Legal Department is hiring a Government Affairs Specialist to supports UHS operations related to government relations and public affairs. Assists in developing and implementing government affairs strategies that align with UHS and its subsidiaries' mission and goals. Coordinate internal stakeholder engagement with elected officials and external partners, including hospital associations.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the Senior Director of Public Affairs on legislative and government relations initiatives and strategies
  • Engage with lobbyists and UHS stakeholders on federal, state, and local lobbying activities to advance the strategic priorities of the company and its subsidiaries
  • Work with internal stakeholders such as Public Relations, Corporate Reimbursement, Grants and Legal to identify and support opportunities by leveraging our government affairs relationships (i.e., lobbyists, trade organizations)
  • Provide support and education to internal stakeholders on federal and state initiatives so that appropriate engagement occurs, including direct outreach to legislators' offices and visits to facilities
  • Coordinate government relations strategies with internal and external partners, including industry associations, coalitions, and community groups, to build alliances and support
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory frameworks and lobbying disclosure laws to ensure compliance and avoid penalties
  • Participate in meetings for industry associations and outside organizations related to government relations and health care concerns/policies, including but not limited to state Hospital Associations
  • Working with trade organizations, lobbyists and internal stakeholders, monitors policies and regulations relevant to the company's interests
  • Ensure other departments, including but not limited to Legal, Business Development, Public Relations and Clinical Services are aware of the political, regulatory, and legislative environment as it relates to their operations

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 5 - 8 years' government affairs experience.

  • Knowledge of healthcare management practices and clinical operations
  • Proficient understanding of state and federal regulatory environments related to healthcare operations
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
