Job Summary

Provides pre-transfer advising and support to prospective students and FIU Connect4Success (C4S) students, primarily based at Miami Dade College (MDC), with visits to multiple campuses, FIU, and other partner colleges. May advise students attending other partner colleges.

Applies strengths-based advising and coaching strategies to deliver personalized pre-transition guidance. Advises students through one-on-one meetings (in-person and virtually) and small group sessions, offering guidance on major selection, prerequisites, transfer admission requirements. Delivers transition workshops and information sessions at key credit milestones to support academic readiness and successful transfer.

Collaborates closely with MDC academic advisors to connect students with campus resources, services, and opportunities. Acts as a liaison between MDC and FIU, working with key staff from both institutions to promote student engagement and ensure a successful and seamless transfer journey, including the transition to FIU. Maintains current knowledge of transfer policies, procedures, and best practices in transfer and transition support.

  • Applies strengths-based advising and coaching strategies to deliver personalized guidance and transition support to prospective transfer students, including those on the C4S pathway (e.g., major selection, prerequisite completion, transfer admission and graduation requirements, and navigating the transition process).
  • Manages student cases through the FIU Bridge Advisor Portal, maintains accurate and current records, and generates reports to monitor activities and improve outcomes.
  • Connects students with resources to support the development and pursuit of their academic plans.
  • Facilitates or supports C4S engagement opportunities and activities, such as workshops, information sessions, program kickoffs, and discipline-specific events, and serving as presenter when needed. These may take place at the host partner college or other partner colleges, and FIU.
  • Contributes to transfer student enrollment goals by supporting recruitment and/or initiatives such as transfer fairs, FIU showcases, and Admitted Student Day events.
  • Contributes to the C4S/transfer social media presence by providing content (e.g., transfer tips, brief student stories, and event photography).
  • Participates in meetings and serves on task forces, working groups, and committees as assigned. Advances and shares initiatives by actively participating in conferences and other professional convenings, including developing and delivering presentations.
  • Acts as a liaison between FIU and the partner college or student, assisting in resolving student-specific issues and responding to transfer-related inquiries from partner college staff.
  • Stays current on transfer policies, procedures, and best practices through professional development and independent study.
  • Maintains confidential records in compliance with ethical and legal standards, including FERPA regulations.
  • Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 1 year of experience in academic advising or student services experience within higher education; OR Bachelor's degree and 3 years in academic advising or student services experience within higher education.
